The $80 million funding round was also supported by MIT Investment Co. and existing investors such as Play Ventures, Kalaari Capital, Waterbridge Ventures, and Griffin Gaming Partners. Focus on Mobile-First Storytelling
Deepak Arya, executive VP of corporate strategy and development at NBCUniversal, emphasized the potential in mobile-first storytelling and microdramas. He noted that under the leadership of CEO Saurabh Pandey, EloElo has developed a unique mobile-first approach that aligns with changing viewer habits. Arya stated, "We're excited to bring NBCUniversal's global capabilities to the partnership as EloElo expands beyond India, including into the U.S. market."
Story TV's Growth and Offerings
Story TV has rapidly expanded its library to include over 5,000 microdramas in six languages, adding a new title every three hours. Users spend 95 minutes a day on the app, reflecting a strong engagement with the platform. Pandey highlighted the shift in viewing habits, stating, "A billion people now reach for the phone before any other screen, and the entertainment built for them will be video first, in their own language, in episodes that fit their day."
Strategic Use of Funds
The newly acquired funds will be directed towards developing original programming in local languages and launching microdramas internationally. Additionally, EloElo plans to further enhance its AI-driven tools, including Dolphin AI, which was recently introduced at the FICCI Frames conference. Pandey remarked, "Story TV shows us what India wants to watch, and Dolphin AI gives us the economics to make it, which is how we have scaled with solid unit economics."
Market Potential
Research firm Omdia projects that the global microdrama market could generate $14 billion by the end of 2026. Furthermore, a report from Lumikai forecasts that the Indian microdrama market alone could reach $4.5 billion by 2030. Redseer estimates that around 40 million Indians made at least one microdrama purchase during fiscal 2026, indicating a robust and growing market.
